Why did Mayfly chose Umbraco?
Primarily we provide digital production and Umbraco development
services to digital and advertising agencies. As such a robust,
scalable, fast and easy to use CMS is paramount. We are .NET
developers by trade and have tried many CMS's through the
years. When we found Umbraco it was like an epiphany! From a
technical perspective, the clean separation of concerns between
content, mark-up and code was like the holy grail for us. We
could now model our content and then have the client entering
content before a single line of code had been written. In an agency
environment this was ground-breaking, we had reduced the "dead
time" at the end of a project by a matter of weeks by having the
client enter content whilst we performed the build! Of course there
were numerous other benefits such as speed, a great caching
implementation, the ability to add functionality incredibly easily
(rich api, plug-and-play like nature of adding user controls); but
another biggie for us was the close connection between the content
tree, the website structure and hierarchical nature of XML.
Training both clients and employees became a breeze, which is not
always the case when using other more "abstract" CMS's that show
little or no correlation between the back-office UI and the
content. Finally - the GREAT community was a massive bonus.
It's growth has been organic and we were made to feel like part of
the family from day one. In short - it was a no-brainer!
Why did you choose to become an Umbraco Gold Partner?
We had been thinking about it for months. Firstly, we
wanted to give something back. We've been a great consumer of
all things Umbraco for a number of years, but we've not been as
active in the community as we would have liked to have been (though
we do host the odd Bristol Umbraco meet-up). So becoming a Gold
Partner was our way of saying thanks and investing in the future of
the CMS that we know, love and rely on. Secondly, it allows us to
provide a greater level of confidence to our clients (both current
and prospective). The added level of support, guaranteed bug fixing
and unlimited use of commercial packages makes our clients sleep
easy at night. We work with some HUGE organisations (though sadly
can't name names due to NDA's) who demand a high level of service
and quality. The Gold Partner status provides this, and I'd
say our clients agree.
The future of Umbraco....
"I think nothing short of World Domination will suffice! The
move to MVC was inspired, the re-work from the ground up and
specifically the Hive Provider model brings with it a huge
potential for expansion, taking Umbraco beyond the realms of a CMS
and into the realms of an "API into anything". I wish I could
predict the way it will go, but I think the potential and
possibilities are endless, so it's probably better to just say
watch this space..."
